Why it stays open

There is an old idea in Chinese aesthetics that fullness invites decline, and that a thing left slightly incomplete keeps its capacity to grow. Open bands, unfinished brushstrokes and empty corners in a painting all come from the same instinct: leave room for something to arrive.

The pattern

Auspicious motifs run along the band and taper toward the two ends, so the ornament is heaviest where the eye lands and lightest where the ring opens.

Fit

The open form adjusts. Press the ends gently together for a closer fit, or ease them apart with your thumb. Adjust slowly and only a little at a time; the band is designed to flex, not to be reshaped.

Care

Remove before washing hands, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Keep away from perfume and hand cream.
