Clouds in Chinese ornament are never only weather. They are shorthand for good fortune on its way.

The motif

The rolling cloud scroll — xiangyun — has been carved into Chinese architecture, woven into court textiles and chased into metal for centuries. Its tucked spiral was chosen deliberately: luck that keeps returning, rather than luck that strikes once and leaves.

The band

A slim band carries the cloud scroll in relief, the raised pattern picked out in gold tone against a paler recessed ground so the motif still reads at arm’s length. The inside face is left smooth.

Wearing it

Quiet enough for the office, considered enough to be noticed. Wear it alone on the index finger, or stack it with plainer bands and let the pattern do the talking.

Care

Remove before washing hands, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Store away from perfume and hand cream, which dull the finish over time.
